1839, He was born as wealthy merchant’s son in the Edo (Tokyo).
At three years old, Yoshitoshi left home to live with his uncle, a pharmacist with no son.
At the age of five, he became interested in art and started to take lessons from his uncle.
1853, he makes his debut as an ukiyoe artist.
He named himself Ikkaisai Yoshitoshi at that time.
About 1860 -1870, Japan was unquiet times.

He sketched them.

1872, he suffered a complete mental breakdown.

1873, He renamed himself “Taiso Yoshitoshi.”
He takes in an Occidental drawing technique.
1874, Newspapers sprung up in the modernization drive, and Yoshitoshi was recruited to produce “news nishikie”.
These were woodblock prints designed as full-page illustrations to accompany articles,
usually on lurid and sensationalized subjects such as “true crime” stories.
1884, He marries Sakamaki Yasu.
1885, The Lonely House on Adachi Moor (Osyu Adachigahara hitotsuya no zu)
These days, his pupil was over 80 persons.
Mizuno Toshikata is his pupils.

1891, he suffers from disease of mind again.
1892, he dies at 53 years old.
