31. 47 RONIN

Today, I write about “47 RONIN”.
1702, the incidents was happened in passage of the Edo Castle.
Asano Takumi no Kami (Lord of ako Domain) slashed Kira Kozuke no Suke.
He is said to have been teased by Kira Kozuke no Suke
Kira Kozuke no Suke was slightly injured.
Shogun Tsunayoshi TOKUGAWA became very angry, since the ceremony with the Imperial court was ruined, and ordered Asano Takumi no Kami to commit seppuku on the same day, as well as、 the elimination of the Asano clan.
Asano Takumi no Kami committed suicide by disembowelment.

Asano’s castle confiscated by the bakufu, the samurai lost job.
Conversely , Kira Kozuke no Suke was subjected to no punishment.

Asano’s samurai were unhappy about the decision.
They continued working out the plan to avenge Kira.

1703, Oishi Kuranosuke, who had been a high-ranking samurai in the service of Asano, led a group of forty-seven of the ronin.
They broke into Kira’s mansion in Edo , captured and executed Kira, and laid his head at the grave of Asano.

Then they turned themselves in to the authorities, and were sentenced to commit seppuku, which they all did on the same day that year.
They were called 47 persons’ loyal retainer.

This incident was performed in kabuki as a “Chushingura.”

Now, “Chushingura” is telecast as a period drama at this time every year.
