Today, I write about “Geisha girl who became Morgan’s wife.”
1881, Kato Yuki was born in Kyoto.
Her father was former samurai.
Her father has died early.
The elder sister who was a geisha opens a geisha house.
Yuki became a geisha girl there.
She was a quiet geisha and good at chinese fiddle (Kokyu).
She was called ” Kokyu no Oyuki.”
She had the lover.
Her lover is an excellent college student.
They were engaged to marry.
George Morgan visited Japan at the time.
He is an American multimillionaire’s son.
He was in love with Yuki who performs Kokyu.
He listened to Yuki’s performance every day.
He proposed to Yuki.
However, she refused.
She was in a lot of trouble and said.
“If I do not pay a large amount of money, I cannot resign from a geisha girl.”
Yuki thought that he gave up.
He promised to pay it.
It appeared in newspaper.
Her lover broke off an engagement.
1904, they were married and went to the US.
Then, they emigrated to Paris.
Yuki was popular in the society of Paris.
1915, George Morgan died.
She got enormous inheritance.
However, she became alone.
She was not remarried.
Enormous inheritance will be confiscated if she is remarried.
1938, The Second World War broke out.
Yuki went back to Kyoto in Japan.
She received Christian baptism and made a large donation for the church.
She live a simple life.
1963, She died at 81.
Musical based on her life was presented.
Many women hope for “Marry a man of wealth” like her.
She did not necessarily do desired marriage.
I do not think that she was happy.
